About LED Therapy

How do I Prepare For LED Light Therapy?

No preparation is needed, just cleansed skin that has not recently been exposed to sunbathing or other heat sources.

What Happens At A LED Light Therapy Treatment?

The treatment is painless and even very relaxing.  You will wear protective glasses and lie on the bed with the machine hovering over the treatment area. The treatment usually lasts 20 minutes and you may feel a little warm but no discomfort.

What Happens After LED Light Therapy?

  • You may be slightly flushed afterwards, which is due to increased circulation; this normally reduces within 20 minutes
  • Use a SPF 50+ and ensure you stay hydrated as the treatment enhances the lymphatic system
  • Do not expose your skin to heat, direct sunbathing, sauna, or excessive exercise for 24 hours

How Often Do I Need To Book LED Light Therapy?

  • 24 hours between treatments is generally recommended
  • Treatments are generally recommended for all indications at a frequency of 2-3 sessions per week for 6 weeks. Once completed, monthly maintenance is recommended
  • Individual treatments or a short booster course of 3 sessions to revitalise and restore vitality or calm irritation.  This is recommended before a special event
  • Combine with another treatment to enhance and accelerate results
  • Dermalux has been shown to build strength and immunity of the skin and also ensure that cells are fuelled with a ready supply of energy (ATP) to enable the regeneration process to be accelerated. Two sessions per week for 2 weeks are recommended before an invasive procedure to enhance overall treatment results and reduce post-procedure downtime

What Is The Science Behind LED Light Therapy?

LED Phototherapy is a very safe and non-invasive medical treatment that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate cellular activity and promote skin rejuvenation. Different wavelengths of light, typically red, blue, and near-infrared, are utilised to target specific skin concerns.

Red light

Stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall skin health. Rejuvenating red light is absorbed in the mitochondria, the “cell powerhouse” responsible for the production of essential energy (ATP) for cellular function. Red light actives fibroblast growth factor, induces the production of collagen type 1, increases matrixmetallo-proteinase -9 (MMP-9) and decreases MMP-1. It has a range of applications for the improvement of photodamage and wound healing. It has also been proven to stimulate circulation to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the cells and the lymphatic system to boost detoxification. Essentially, red light supercharges our cell energy triggering a cascade of biological pathways which result in skin enhancing effects.

Blue light

Is effective in treating acne by targeting the bacteria responsible for breakouts, targets the p.anes (Propionbacterium acnes) bacteria. When bacteria absorb blue light at 415nm, photo-excitation of porphyrins, specifically coproporphyrin III, trigger a photochemical reaction and the porphyrins convert to singlet oxygen. This has a powerful antibacterial action to help eliminate spots whilst being gentle on the skin. Blue light is absorbed superficially in the skin but when used in combination with red light, deeper penetration is achieved. The result is a reduction of inflammatory lesions and accelerated healing to assist in the prevention of scarring.

Near-infrared light

830nm is absorbed by chromophores in the cell membrane which stimulate complex cellular processes resulting in increased collagen, elastin and growth factor production and repair mechanisms essential in the wound healing process. Near Infared light stimulates the release of Nitric Oxide which increases blood flow stimulating the formation of new vessels and aids vascular repair. This means greater skin perfusion and stimulation of lymph activity aids the removal of toxins which helps to reduce oedema and inflammation. NIR830 is proven to suppress tyrosinase, an enzyme that contributes to the formation of melanin, so the application can help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive treatment with minimal side effects, making it suitable for various skin types and conditions. It is a gentle yet effective option for those seeking skin rejuvenation without downtime.

It is important to note that individual results may vary, and the effectiveness of LED Phototherapy can depend on factors such as the specific wavelengths used, treatment duration, and consistency. Consulting with a skincare professional can help determine the most appropriate approach based on individual skin concerns and goals.
