At Panacea Skin Clinics, our commitment is simple: evidence-based medicine, ethical practice, and treatments that genuinely improve skin health. This means we intentionally do not offer certain popular or trending services—not because they are inherently harmful, but because they do not align with our clinical standards, long-term outcomes, or patient-safety philosophy.
Below is a clear, transparent overview of the treatments we don’t provide, and the reasons behind those decisions.
Traditional Spa Facials
There is absolutely a place for a relaxing facial. They can feel beautiful, provide temporary hydration and give the skin a short-term glow.
But at Panacea, our focus is different.
We are a medical skin clinic, so our treatments are selected to address the underlying causes of concerns such as pigmentation, uneven texture, skin ageing, sun damage, acne, redness, and scarring. Our aim is to provide treatments that offer more than superficial or short-term results.
Our Approach Instead
We focus on medical-grade skin treatments backed by science — such as Micro-needling, chemical peels, BBL, and collagen stimulating therapies — that deliver measurable improvements in tone, texture, clarity, and skin health.
RF Microneedling
RF Microneedling combines traditional microneedling with radiofrequency energy, delivering heat beneath the skin.
While it is widely marketed for tightening and collagen stimulation, we do not believe it offers enough advantage over other available treatment options to make it part of our treatment menu.
Adding thermal energy can also introduce additional variables, including the depth and distribution of heat within the tissue. In certain patients, this may increase the risk of complications such as prolonged inflammation, pigmentary changes, scarring or unwanted changes to facial fat.
Because long-term data supporting its safety and efficacy remains limited, and because complication risks may be higher than with regular microneedling, we do not offer RF microneedling at Panacea.
Our Approach Instead
We prefer treatments where the depth and treatment endpoint can be carefully controlled, including medical microneedling and selected laser and light-based treatments such as BBL.
The goal is not to use the newest device. It is to choose the treatment that offers the most appropriate balance of results, safety and predictability for your skin.
IV Drips / Vitamin Infusions
IV vitamin infusions have become increasingly popular in the wellness space, with claims ranging from increased energy to brighter skin and improved overall wellbeing.
For otherwise healthy people with a diagnosed deficiency or medical indication, however, evidence supporting routine IV vitamin therapy for general wellness or skin rejuvenation remains limited.
IV therapy is also an invasive medical procedure and carries potential risks, including infection, vein irritation and fluid or electrolyte disturbances.
IV drips are popular on social media, but the medical evidence does not support their routine use for wellness, skin glow, or energy boosts in otherwise healthy people without a diagnosed deficiency or medical indication.
Our Approach Instead
Great skin and good health are not created through a quick infusion.
We focus on the things that have a proven role in long-term skin health, including good nutrition, sun protection, targeted skincare, and evidence-based skin treatments.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)
PRP uses components of a patient’s own blood and has been promoted extensively for facial rejuvenation.
Research into PRP continues to evolve, but results can be highly variable. Differences in blood collection, platelet concentration, patient health, preparation techniques and individual patient biology make treatment difficult to standardise.
For facial skin rejuvenation specifically, we believe there are currently more predictable treatment options available.
Our Approach Instead
Depending on what we are trying to achieve, we may recommend medical microneedling, laser treatments or other collagen-stimulating therapies with more predictable treatment protocols.
Being natural does not automatically make a treatment better, and being popular does not necessarily make it more effective.
“Detox”, Lymphatic and Holistic Beauty Treatments
Words such as detox, lymphatic drainage and holistic are frequently used in the beauty industry, but they can sometimes blur the line between a relaxing wellness experience and treatment of a genuine medical skin concern.
Massage and spa treatments can certainly feel relaxing and may temporarily reduce puffiness, but we do not market them as treatments for skin concerns.
Our Approach Instead
We identify what is actually causing the concern and select treatment accordingly.
That may involve pigmentation treatment, vascular treatment, collagen-stimulating treatments, medical-grade skincare—or sometimes simply advising that treatment is not necessary.
Trend-Driven or Influencer-Led Procedures
Social media can make a new treatment seem essential almost overnight.
Before introducing a treatment at Panacea we consider:
- Is there good clinical evidence?
- Is it safe?
- Are the results predictable?
- Does it suit our patient population and Australian skin and sun exposure?
- Are there better alternatives?
- Is it genuinely worth the patient’s money?
If the answer to any of these questions is not convincing, we would rather wait until more evidence is available.
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound)
HIFU is commonly marketed as a “non-surgical facelift” because it delivers focused ultrasound energy beneath the skin.
While some patients may achieve improvement, results can vary considerably and the treatment is not appropriate for every face.
Potential concerns include pain, unpredictable outcomes and unwanted loss of facial volume when energy affects fat in areas where volume is important.
For younger patients or those with relatively mild skin laxity, the potential benefit may also be limited.
Our Approach Instead
Rather than treating every patient with the same tightening device, we first determine why the face appears lax or aged.
Skin quality, collagen loss, facial volume, bone structure and sun damage all contribute differently – and each may require a different approach.
Sometimes the best treatment is a collagen-stimulating procedure. Sometimes it is an injectable treatment. Sometimes surgery will provide a result that non-surgical devices simply cannot replicate.
We believe in being transparent about that.
PDO Threads / “Thread Lifts”
Thread lifts are often described as a minimally invasive alternative to a facelift.
While threads can have a role in carefully selected patients, results can be variable and are generally temporary. Potential complications can include visible or palpable threads, puckering or irregularity, asymmetry, infection, inflammatory reactions, permanent scar tissue, granulomas, and nodules.
For these reasons, we do not feel they offer the predictability and long-term value we want from the treatments available at Panacea.
Our Approach Instead
Where appropriate, we focus on biostimulators and strategic injectable treatments that improve structure and support without the risks associated with implanted threads.
Our Philosophy: Safety and Science First, Always
Panacea Skin Clinics is built on a simple principle: If a treatment cannot reliably improve skin health — or if its risks outweigh its benefits — we will not offer it.
Our patients trust us because we stay firmly aligned with:
- Evidence-based medicine
- Ethical practice
- Safety over trends
- Long-term results over quick fixes
- Predictability of the treatments
- Good value for money
